Frequently Asked Questions

What is Silk & Sidr?

Silk & Sidr is a house of Islamic art and craftsmanship. We work with master artisans to bring timeless pieces into your home, from calligraphy and mushafs to prayer rugs and beyond.

For centuries, Islamic art has been at the heart of everyday life, shaping how we pray, read, remember, and reflect. The hands and souls that produced these crafts sought to make more than mere ornaments; they strove to make our lives, moment by moment, beautiful. Every piece we offer is born within a living tradition, made to be touched, used, and loved.

What does “Silk & Sidr” mean?

Silk and the sidr tree are both mentioned in the Qur'an as gifts of paradise. They represent beauty in this world and the next, reflecting the harmony between faith and refinement that inspires our work.

Where are your pieces made?

Each collection comes from a different region. Our calligraphy series is created in Istanbul, as are our hand-bound mushafs. Upcoming works include rugs woven in Afghanistan.

What is the difference between calligraphy originals and calligraphy editions?

Original pieces are one-of-one works by master calligraphers, each accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity. The editions are high-quality reproductions of original works.

How do I care for my calligraphy?

Handle with clean, dry hands and keep flat or in its archival tube until framing. Use acid-free materials and UV-protective glass when framing. Hang away from direct sunlight and moisture. Full care instructions are included with your order.

What makes your mushafs special?

A mushaf is a physical copy of the Qur'an. Our mushafs are hand-bound in cow leather by master craftsmen in Istanbul and available in two script styles: Ottoman and Madina. Each carries a chain of transmission tracing back to the great masters of Islamic calligraphy.

See the product page for full details on the calligrapher, bookbinder, and care instructions.

How do I care for my mushaf?

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Handle with clean, dry hands. Avoid opening fully flat to protect the spine. Clean the leather with a soft, dry cloth only. Full care instructions are included with your order.

How do you ensure authenticity and quality?

Every piece is made in collaboration with the artisan and personally inspected before shipping. We source materials for longevity and lasting beauty.
